Blurb: What’s worse than being single at your high school reunion? Accidentally blurting out you’re engaged… to your hot best friend! My bakery just burned down. My dress is too tight. Oh, and the mean girls? Still as nasty as ever. So I try to put on a brave face when in walks Julian. All custom suit and sin, looking like every fantasy I’ve ever had. Panicking, I grab my billionaire best friend and do something insane: I announce we’re getting married! Julian: I always wanted Maggie in high school but, damn, I kept my hands to myself. Since then, I’ve survived a messy divorce and earned my stripes as a single dad. But now, I’m done wanting. So I don’t just play along with her little stunt. I own it. “You’re mine now,” I murmur against her ear, then kiss her in front of the whole room. Now we’re fake engaged, and since I need a nanny and she needs a little rescuing, she moves in. And that’s when things really heat up. Every breathless kiss, every burning touch, every pleading moan is proof—this was never fake for me. And when I hear her breath hitch as I whisper, “Tell me you don’t want this,” I know there’s no going back. She thinks this is temporary. She thinks it’ll ruin our friendship.
She thinks I’ll let her walk away when this is over. Not a chance. I told her she’s mine. Now she’s about to see what happens when a man refuses to let go of the one thing he can’t live without.

Review: I actually DNF’d this one. I’ve read several Mia Mara books that I really liked, but just wasn’t feeling it between Maggie and Julian, and the main mean girl was a bit ridiculous. I think I got to about page 43. I did get a laugh at Maggie trying to convince the mean girl she’s not a lesbian – that her best friend was not her girlfriend in high school. Then Maggie tries to change the topic and asks the mean girl if she’s married or seeing anyone. The mean girl is like (not direct quotes, I don’t think), “You just spent all that time trying to convince me you’re straight and now you’re hitting on me?”
IDK, maybe I’ll pick it back up and try reading it again sometime. It sounds really good, had humor in it, and I know I like Mia Mara books. Maybe I should have pushed past page 43, but like I said, I just wasn’t feeling the MCs for this one.
5 Stars for the guy on the cover though.
